The G.I.R.L.S./Little G.I.R.L.S. Group Mentoring Program (Girls In Life Situations) works with girls 7-17, to improve self-esteem and confidence and explore the basic skills that are easily transferable to the workplace and everyday life. Mentees undertake a process of self-discovery that results in them exploring educational institutions and careers that represent their interests and needs. Students work on various tasks to explore their identities and to tell their stories: who they are, what challenges they face and how we can help them. Several guest speakers have participated in our mentoring program, including the Broward County Police, Health, and Youth Services departments. We have also brought in guest mentors to inspire and educate our mentees on a wide range of topics, including anger management and women’s health and fitness.
The program addresses high-priority community concerns to prepare mentees for a smooth and successful transition into adulthood. Our program’s focus areas include:
• Educational Support and Dropout Prevention Services
• Recreation and Social Opportunities
• Life-skills Training• Interpersonal Communications Skills
• Social Responsibility and Community Service *G.I.R.L.S Group meet every 2nd & 4th Saturday at 10:00 am.
BraSpa: As a newly established program for our 2015-2016 fiscal year, Bra Spa serves as an initiative to raise awareness to an underexposed community about the risk of breast cancer and proper hygienic care when it comes to proper undergarment support. This new and exciting experience allows teenage girls to discover their growing bodies, learn about proper coverage and fitting and get the support they need to feel confident and beautiful. Unfortunately, there are many girls who lack the resources needed to purchase the right bra or learn about proper undergarment support.
Bra Spa is an initiative that supports the needs of these teen girls by providing them with new bras and underwear. Once a year (held in October during National Breast Cancer Month) so that our mentees, along with teen girls from area homeless shelters and group homes, can enjoy a day of education and shopping.
"Don't take it PURSEonal" Purse drive for girls in homeless shelters and in foster homes. Purses are filled with various hygienic items including feminine products, lotions, shampoos, combs, etc.
